Caterina Roma
With a background in philology and literature, Caterina Roma (Catalonia, 1977) is a self-taught ceramic artist. Her work draws on her research into ceramic techniques and traditions, as well as her intimate connection with the Costa Brava, where she lives and works. Roma seeks what she calls “wild, authentic beauty,” allowing intuition to guide her creative process.
Roma follows a deliberate and sustainable approach to ceramics: wild clay is sourced locally, carefully cleaned and shaped by hand, and slowly fired in a kiln over several days. In her porcelain works, rocks and plants are often transformed into natural glazes. As a result, each piece contains, to varying degrees, fragments of the surrounding landscape itself.
For this collaboration, Roma has selected three pieces, two of which are exclusive to Alma Archive, made from wild clay. From excavation to finishing, everything is done by hand, making each piece unique.
