With Assistants, stylist Virginie Benarroch and photographer Lola Raban present a publication by Exhibition Studio at the intersection of documentary and portraiture, dedicated to an essential yet largely invisible figure in the fashion industry: the stylist’s assistant.
Conceived as both a visual directory and a documentary project, the book assembles a gallery of portraits and details (faces, gestures, tools, work kits) that reveal the realities of this behind-the-scenes profession—both a logistical and creative pillar of fashion shoots.
“I find stylist assistants fascinating,” explains Virginie Benarroch.
“Their style—functional, adaptable, yet aesthetically refined—is the result of real thought. Their work kit reveals a lot about their personality. Each develops their own codes, tricks, and habits to turn it into a tool that reflects who they are. They take care of most of the logistics, yet their contribution is rarely recognized at its true value by the industry.”
Longtime friends and both originally from Nîmes, Virginie Benarroch and Lola Raban came together around a shared desire: to create a gallery of portraits in book form, conceived as a documentary project grounded in the realities of the field and of professional practices.
